On this Election Day, I want to remind you about something very important to hold on to both today and in the coming days. We’re electing a President, not a Savior. God isn’t running for office. No matter what happens, God is still in control.
Don’t get me wrong, politics matters. But consider this fact, as you look back through the history of the world, what we get to do here in America, to actually discuss and choose to cast a vote, is not the norm, it’s the exception. It’s unusual.
We are so thankful for all the brave men and women who have given up their lives so we have that right to choose our leaders.
As followers of Jesus, our faith should come before our politics. The order is: Faith first, Politics somewhere after that. In fact, faith first, then put everything else under that.
Now why would I say that? Well, for one thing, I’ve never heard anyone say on their deathbed, “Before I die, please read the Declaration of Independence to me. I just want to hear a little bit of the Bill of Rights.” No, but people do say, “Read to me from the Bible, so I can hear those wonderful words of life.” Because that’s where our hope is. No one says, “When I die, I hope I go to Washington.” No! That may be more like that other place.
Throughout history, rulers have gone by all kinds of titles. They’ve been called: Emperor, Caesar, Pharaoh, Khan, or Czar. Many times, they’re called King. And throughout history, the ruler gained their position in one of two ways. Kings didn’t get voted into office. They got in through their bloodline or through bloodshed.
Jesus is a King from a royal bloodline who shed His blood for you. But, He gives you a choice to choose Him to be the Ruler of your life.
The President of the United States is an important position. It’s a position to be honored and respected. But remember, Jesus is not a Republican or a Democrat, and He does not ride on the back of a donkey or on the back of an elephant. His color is not red or blue, but purple, the color of royalty! He is over them all.
I’m glad you have political passion, but King Jesus will have the last Word! Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is sovereign. He is in control. When He returns, He will be wearing a robe with His royal title:
On His robe was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords. Revelation 19:16
No matter who is in the White House, God is on the throne of Heaven and rules over the whole Earth!
So, here’s what I pray:
Heavenly Father, I pray You will give your protection to our president. I pray that You will give our president godly wisdom and humility before You. I pray that You will surround our president with godly advisors that he will listen to. Bless our nation. Unite us, protect us, and give us peace in our land. Help us to remember, our hope is not in the Republicans or the Democrats, it is in Your strong and mighty hands, our King of kings and Lord of lords! God, I pray that no matter what happens, Your sovereign will is done and You will be glorified. In Jesus Name! Amen!
