“Where were you when the world stopped turning?” That’s the way country artist Alan Jackson asked the question that we’ve all thought about and occasionally remember, especially on the anniversary of 9/11. Everyone who is old enough to recall that day will never forget where they were and what they were doing.
Even today, I remember watching the events unfold on tv and feeling such a sense of utter hopelessness, fear and disbelief at what I was seeing.
I have even had the privilege of going to the twin towers site and reflecting on the horror of what happened on this tragic day 19 years ago.
What can we do today, all these years later? Well, it seems that heartbreaking events like this are happening even more frequently today than they did back then. Truth be told, our nation and world have become even more hopeless.
And that’s where we come in. You see, as followers of Jesus, we have what our world needs the most. We are hope dealers to the world!
Christian hope is more than just a wish or a whim. Christian hope is a certain reality! The Bible describes it as an anchor in Hebrews 6:19 – This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
No matter what might happen, we can be sure that God is still on the throne and His plan will ultimately prevail. So as His people, we can face the future with confidence. We can also share the hope we have with our generation by letting them know how good God is!
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 1 Peter 3:15
How can we best remember 9/11 today? By trusting confidently in God and being dealers of hope to those around us. That’s what I want to do today, and I hope you will too.
