We have some exciting plans for this October. The BIG news is that this year, Trunk or Treat won’t be happening on Halloween night. Instead, we are going to have a huge Costume Party at both of our Connection Church campuses on Sunday morning, October 29th!

That’s right, we are inviting everyone in our community to a Costume Party at The Connection Church on Sunday morning. Here’s what that’s going to look like:

Our Celebration Services will all happen at their usual times, but they will be shorter family-friendly services where we will bring our KonnectionKids into the services with us. KonnectionKidz preschool will still operate as it always does. These services will include music and I will be presenting a brief message about God’s plan of salvation that even the kids will understand.

After the Celebration services, we’ll have game booths and lots of candy for the kids.

Of course, to make this event happen. It’s going to require a lot of volunteer power from our Dream Team and well, YOU, if you are not already serving on the team. You can start bringing candy this week for us to give out that morning.

Now, a lot of people will naturally ask, “Why?” Why would we take a Sunday morning and change things up like this?

The short answer is:

We want to do whatever it takes to fulfill the mission that God has given to us as a church.

The seven last words of the church are: “We’ve never done it this way before.” So we’re going to try something new.

A longer answer is this:

In our culture, Halloween has become the second biggest holiday of the year. People are already decorating their homes for Halloween. Some people say, “Halloween is an evil day.” But Colossians 2: 16-17 says:

So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality. Colossians 2:16-17

In other words, it’s just a day that God created. As we have done from the beginning, we leverage what’s going on in our culture to reach out to our community. We can see this being one of our biggest weekends of the year to share God’s hope and love.

We want to meet people right where they are, just like God does! We’ll be able to invite people right onto our campus and our services and I’ll be able to share a Biblical message. People will see that what happens around here is not your ordinary church experience. Another added benefit is: it gives parents a chance to let their kids dress in a costume more than just that one time on Halloween night.

Now, let me tell you about one of the big added benefits of our strategy for this year! Instead of being away from our homes on Halloween night, This means that over 1000 of us who normally are at Trunk or Treat will now be home. All of our neighbors will be coming by our houses and we’ll be there to talk with them and hopefully invite them to The Connection Church. But make sure you’re being generous with your candy too!

I am excited about this new strategy.  I hope you will help me let other people know not only what we’re doing, but why we’re doing what we do.
